Unga Prices to Drop From Next Week – Ruto

Last month, agriculture CS Mithika Linturi assured Kenyans of a significant reduction in Unga prices as the first maize imports.

He confirmed the country had received the first batch of maize and rice imports, which he said will go a long way in addressing the existing deficit.

Price of Unga will go down from next week, President William Ruto has said.

Speaking in Machakos county on Friday, Ruto said imported maize will arrive in Kenya tomorrow (Saturday)

“I know we still have the problem of high cost of living. You know Unga is not available in shops…. it’s in the Shamba. When you want to solve the problem of Unga, start from the Shamba,” he said.

“By the end of tomorrow, flour that I imported will have arrived,” he said.

Unga now retails from a range of Sh150 to Sh250 in supermarkets and retail shops.

Ruto said he will ensure there is a balancing between flour from local producers and the importing flour.
